Fraser Brown both scored for Northeastern men's soccer (1-1-1, 1-0-0 CAA) as they held off the Elon Phoenix (2-1-0, 0-1-0 CAA) with a 2-1 win at Rudd Field in Elon, North Carolina on Saturday night.
The win is the first career win for first-year head coach Rich Weinrebe. The Huskies pick up their first win of the season and hand the Phoenix their first loss of the year.
- Tellez struck first, slotting a penalty kick into the bottom left corner in the 14th minute. Sophomore midfielder Tobias Wangerud drew the foul.
- The goal was Tellez's first of the season.
- After Elon equalized before the half, the Huskies opened the half with a goal from Brown. After shuffling the ball between multiple defenders, Brown's left-footed effort beat the Elon keeper's short side and he scored his first collegiate career goal.
- Redshirt junior goalkeeper Colby Hegarty made five saves, earning his first win of the year
- Elon senior defender Myson Darden and junior forward Jack Dolk were given red cards in the 83rd and 84th minutes, respectively, limiting the Phoenix to nine men.
- Huskies graduate students Ahriá Simons, Ole Kjørholt and junior Fabrizio Cubeddo anchored the back line, playing all 90 minutes.
- The Huskies were outshot 6-3, but converted on two of the three chances.
The Huskies head back to Boston for their next matchup, kicking off a three-game homestead. They face Quinnipiac (2-1-0, 0-0-0) at Parsons Field in Brookline, Mass. Tuesday night. Kickoff is at 6 p.m. and will be broadcast live on NESN+.
