DURHAM, N.H. – The Northeastern women's soccer team (2-2-1) defeated the University of New Hampshire (2-3-0) by a score of 1-0 on Friday evening at Wildcat Stadium.
A scoreless first half was immediately overshadowed by a 47th-minute goal from freshman Vivian Akyirem, and five second-half saves from grad. student Holland Stam in goal.
- Neither team got on the score sheet in the first half despite several dangerous offensive chances from either team.
- The Huskies got on the board in the second half when Nina Dooley sent a ball into the middle from the right wing – it was tipped along by Jessie Hunt to find Vivian Akyirem, who took a dribble and tucked the ball in the upper-left corner of the goal to make it 1-0.
- New Hampshire brought the pressure after the Northeastern strike, tallying five shots on net in the remainder of the game. All five were stopped by Holland Stam, posting her third clean sheet of the season. She finished the contest with six saves, one off of her season high of seven.
- The Huskies now move to 12-8-4 all-time against the Wildcats.
The Huskies return home on Sunday, September 4th for Senior Day at Parsons Field – they face the UConn Huskies at 1pm on FloSports.
