BROOKLINE, Mass. - In the 88th minute of a scoreless draw, freshman midfielder
Ava Nace netted the lone goal in a 1-0 victory for the Northeastern women's soccer team (3-2-1) over the UConn Huskies (2-2-1) on Sunday afternoon at Parsons Field.
The Northeastern Huskies celebrated senior day ahead of the game, honoring six graduating seniors on the roster.
- The Northeastern back line withstood five first half shots, and 16 second half shots, allowing just nine on target, all saved by Holland Stam.
- Northeastern's defense stood strong, withstanding a 21-3 shot advantage for UConn in the contest,
- Stam finished with her second straight shutout, and fourth of the season. Her nine saves was a new season and career high.
- UConn took 10 corner kicks in the contest - Northeastern was not awarded a corner in the game.
- The scoreless draw was broken in the 88th minute on a free kick by Jane Kaull. Her kick sailed into the box where it bounced off the head of Rose Kaefer, and found a charging Ava Nace who flicked it into the net with her right foot. The rookie now has two goals in her last three games played.
- It's NU's first win over UConn since 2018 when the Huskies opened the season with a 2-0 victory at Parsons. Northeastern is now 3-2-0 all-time against UConn.
The Huskies take a quick road trip to Fairfield on Thursday, September 8, at 6 p.m. on ESPN+. They return home the following Sunday, September 11 for Alumni Weekend, hosting Brown for a 1 p.m. kickoff on FloSports.
