Huskies Skate Away With 5-1 Victory Over Merrimack

NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. — Five different Huskies tallied a two-point evening as Northeastern skated away with a 5-1 win over #11 Merrimack.
  • The Huskies wasted no time taking the lead in game one against Merrimack. With only 3:19 off the clock, Northeastern's power-play unit struck on a weak side bury from Sam Colangelo. The assists were credited to Gunnarwolfe Fontaine and Aidan McDonough.
  • For his fifth goal of the season, Matt Choupani bested the Warriors netminder with a wrap around in front the crease. Choupani's helpers came from Hunter McDonald and Fontaine, his second of the night.
  • Despite the Warriors scoring to open the second period, the Huskies took back a two-goal advantage to finish out the middle frame. Cam Lund passed ahead for Justin Hryckowian in the slot who easily found Aidan McDonough in his trusted faceoff circle for his fifth goal in four games.
  • Quicker than anyone expected, Hryckowian tallied another goal for Northeastern just 17 seconds into the final period. The senior defensive pair of Jayden Struble and Jeremie Bucheler collected the helpers to make it 4-2.
  • Liam Walsh, the graduate transfer from Merrimack, went top shelf for the Huskies final goal to secure a 5-1 victory. Walsh was assisted by Colangelo and Struble.
  • Netminder Devon Levi finished the night with 33 saves for his 11th win of the season, while Matt DeMelis led the team with three blocks and Hryckowian tallied 12 faceoff wins to lead both teams.
Northeastern is back at Matthews Arena tomorrow night after two months on the road to close out the weekend series with Merrimack. The game is set for 7:30 p.m. and all the action can be caught on NESN+/ESPN+.
