TOWSON, Md. – With the score tied at 37 with 15:37 to play, Towson (15-7, 7-2) went on a 19-3 run over six minutes before holding off a late push from Northeastern (8-12, 4-5) to escape with a 72-63 victory on Thursday night at SECU Arena.

Jahmyl Telfort and
Coleman Stucke led a late Northeastern 12-3 run in which the Huskies went 4-of-6 to make it a five-point game with a minute to play, but Towson would hit its free throws down the stretch to seal the victory.

Chris Doherty recorded his third double-double in the last four games with 12 points and 16 rebounds to lead the Huskies, which led by as many as nine in the first half before finishing 22-of-57 overall and 5-of-23 from deep.

Stucke had it going for the visitors, tying a career-high with 19 points on 7-of-13 from the field (4-of-9 from long range) to lead three Huskies in double-figures. Telfort joined him with 18 points (7-of-16).

Telfort's 18 points moved the junior into the top-50 of Northeastern's all-time scoring list with 923 career points. He is just the 15thplayer to reach the top-50 in three seasons or less.

Charles Thompson had a game-high 20 points for the Tigers, while Cameron Holden had 13 points and a team-high 10 rebounds for the hosts. Nicholas Timberlake joined them in double figures with 14 points to lead a Towson team that was 24-of-61 overall and 7-of-17 from three.

• Northeastern got off to a hot start, leading by as many as nine in the opening half, before Towson closed on a 12-1 run to erase the deficit and take a two-point lead into the locker room, 26-24.

• Stucke couldn't miss early on, opening the game 4-of-4 from the floor (3-of-3 from deep) to finish the half with 11 points. Doherty did the work down low for Northeastern, collecting eight of NU's 19 first half rebounds.

• While the Huskies defense held Towson to an 11-of-35 showing in the first, the Tigers chipped away as the half wore on led by Holden's seven points along with six from Timberlake.Â

• It was back and forth over the first five minutes of the second half before an 11-1 Towson run put the hosts up 11 at the midway mark, 51-40.

• Northeastern wouldn't go quietly, though, using a 12-3 run to trim the deficit to five with 60 seconds to play, 67-61, but Towson would hit its free throws late to ice it.
