WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. – Despite a halftime lead, the Northeastern Huskies (3-6-4, 1-3-3 CAA) fell to the Monmouth Hawks (6-3-4, 3-1-2 CAA) by a score of 2-1 on Saturday evening at Hesse Field.
- The Huskies tallied the opening goal with under 10 minutes left in the first half on a set piece by Federico Tellez – he found the head of Mathias Hille, who was able to head the ball downward and past the Monmouth goalkeeper.
- Northeastern opened the second half with a flurry of scoring chances in the opening 10 minutes, including two chances on target and one blocked away by the defense.
- Monmouth tallied the equalizer in the 55th minute and the go-ahead goal in the 74th minute, both off of free kick set pieces.
- Northeastern was given three corner kicks in the final 90 seconds of the game but were unable to find the back of the net.
- Hille's goal was the first of his collegiate career – Tellez's assist was his CAA-leading eighth of the season, and 25th of his career.
- The Huskies entered tonight's game with a 3-0-0 record when tallying the first goal, and 7-0-1 in the previous two seasons.
The Huskies take a three-game break from CAA play with their next match coming this Tuesday, October 17 at Boston University. Kick off is at 4 p.m. on ESPN+.
