BOSTON – The Northeastern University men's soccer team (3-6-5) drew with Boston University (7-3-4) at Nickerson Field on Tuesday afternoon, with a final score of 1-1.
- The Huskies were able to grab the lead right before halftime on a BU own goal in the final minute of play. A cross by Ahriá Simons was cut out by a BU defender but his touch deflected the ball into the BU net for a 1-0 Northeastern lead.
- Northeastern had a huge chance to extend the lead in the 65th minute on a run from Harry Sankey and Fraser Brown, but Brown's shot was just inches off target, deflecting out of play off the crossbar.
- The Terriers equalized on a counter-attack in the 82nd minute.
- NU keeper Colby Hegarty made his first start of the season, and recorded four saves in the final three minutes of play to keep the game level. On the day he stopped five of the six BU shots on target, facing 11 total.
- The Huskies had lost the previous three match ups with the Terriers in Allston before the 1-1 draw. NU comes away from Nickerson Field without a loss for the first time since 2003, when the Huskies took an America East playoff game 3-0 from the Terriers.
The Huskies continue a stretch of non-conference play hosting Big 10 foe Rutgers this Saturday, October 21 for Alumni Day. Kick off is scheduled for 2 p.m. on FloFC and NESN+.
