Story Links

BOSTON – Defne Arliel tallied a double-double with 15 kills and a career-high 24 digs, but it was not enough as the Northeastern volleyball team (10-10, 8-6 CAA) fell to College of Charleston (10-15, 7-7 CAA) in five sets on Sunday afternoon at the Cabot Center.

Arliel's double-double was her second of the season, and sixth of her career. Julianna Truscott also had a double-double for Northeastern with 10 kills and 15 digs, her third of the season.
  • Set One: Both teams traded points at the beginning of the frame, with neither leading by more than two. Knotted up at 10, back-to-back blocks gave the Huskies a 12-10 advantage, but Charleston immediately responded right back with two straight points. A few points later, kills from Arliel and Truscott gave Northeastern a 19-15 lead, but Charleston continued to fight back. The Cougars tallied seven of the next 10 points to knot the score up at 22. The teams went back and forth the rest of the way until back-to-back kills by Arliel gave Northeastern the set at 26-24. Truscott led the Huskies in the frame with four kills on .300 hitting.
  • Set Two: Charleston stormed out to a 10-1 lead and didn't look back. The Cougars hit .333 overall in the frame and took the set at 25-9.
  • Set Three: The teams went back in forth, with neither leading by more than two. Charleston pulled ahead at 12-9, but Northeastern responded with four straight points to take the advantage back at 13-12. A few points later, the Huskies went on another 4-0 run, capped off by blocks from Marika Virthe and Truscott to lead 19-14. A kill by Arliel gave Northeastern set point (24-18), and the Huskies took the frame at 25-20. Arliel paced Northeastern in the set with four kills on .444 hitting.
  • Set Four: The Cougars got off to an early 9-3 advantage and remained in front throughout the frame. Blocks from Arliel and Zier, and then a kill from Arliel trimmed the deficit to 15-13, but Charleston responded back with four straight points. The Cougars led 22-17 down the stretch and took the set at 25-18. Charleston hit .325 in the frame.
