BROOKLINE, Mass. – Despite a lead at halftime, the Northeastern Huskies (3-4-4, 1-2-3) drew with the Elon Phoenix (1-6-3, 0-3-2) by a score of 2-2 on Saturday afternoon at a rainy Parsons Field.
The Huskies fell behind 1-0 early in the contest and responded with goals from
Federico Tellez (2) and
Kevin Ogudugu (1) to take a 2-1 lead at halftime. The Phoenix leveled the game midway through the second to split the points.
- Elon opened the scoring in the 20th minute on a corner kick header to lead 1-0.
- On a free kick at the top of the box, Federico Tellez powered a ball past the keeper on the left post to tie the game at 1-1 in the 30th minute.
- The Huskies took the lead on a counter-attack started by Tellez in the midfield. He found Zach Sauer up field who passed to a charging Kevin Ogudugu at the top of the box, settling it with a quick touch before blasting it inside the right post. Northeastern held a 2-1 lead after the 33rd minute and into halftime.
- Elon notched the lone goal of the second half in the 72nd minute on a bouncing bobbled ball in the box from a free kick near the sideline.
- At the time of the result, Northeastern has moved up to fifth place in the CAA standings with six conference points, one point ahead of Delaware drew with Drexel, 3-3. The Huskies have two conference contests remaining.
- The Huskies are 0-4-3 when the opponent tallies the first goal.
Northeastern is back home this Tuesday, October 10th to face non-conference foe Bryant at 6 p.m. at Parsons Field. The game is the team's annual Breast Cancer Awareness game and will stream on NESN+ and FloFC.
