CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Harvard (3-0) used runs of 18-2 in the first half run and 13-0 to open the second half to run away from the Northeastern men's basketball team (1-2) on Tuesday night at Lavietes Pavilion, 80-56.
The Crimson led from wire to wire, putting four players in double figures led by 22 points, six rebounds and three assists from Malik Mack (9-of-11 overall, 4-of-5 from three). He was joined by Chisom Okpara (14 points), Chandler Pigge (12 points) and Louis Lesmond (10 points) to pace a Harvard squad that was 31-of-64 from the floor and 10-of-22 from long range.
Harold Woods was a bright spot for Northeastern, scoring 12 points to go along with three rebounds as the Huskies finished the night shooting 37% overall.
Northeastern struggled to shoot the ball early in the first half as Harvard used an 18-2 run over 4:41 to lead by as many as 19 before the Huskies got hot down the stretch to cut the deficit to 41-28 at the break. Mack led the way for the Crimson with 13 points on 6-of-8 shooting as Harvard shot 50% overall and controlled the glass, 22-13.
Woods was the story for the visitors, dropping 11 on 5-of-6 from the floor for a Northeastern team that was 10-of-28 overall (36%) and 2-of-11 from deep, including the final five NU points of the half to cap a 9-0 Northeastern run.
Rashad King added nine points off the bench for Northeastern on 4-of-9 shooting for the evening.
The Huskies will head to Greenville, N.C. this weekend for three games in three days at the TowneBank Holiday Classic, beginning with host East Carolina on Sunday at 2 p.m. on ESPN+.
