Northeastern Dominates Final Game With RPI, 9-2

TROY, N.Y. – Nine skaters recorded a multiple-point game en route to the Northeastern men's hockey team defeating the RPI Engineers, 9-2, to conclude their Thanksgiving road weekend.
  • The Huskies first of four goals in the opening frame was scored by assistant captain Liam Walsh. With a redirect in the slot, Walsh gave Northeastern an early 1-0 lead.
  • Just over halfway through the first period, junior Matt Choupani netted his first of the season after forcing a turnover in the Huskies' offensive zone.
  • As freshman Nolan Hayes' shot deflected off the RPI netminder's pads, Alex Campbell found himself in the right place at the right time to bury a one-timer for a 3-0 advantage.
  • Cam Lund tallied the Huskies final goal of the first period at the 3:19 minute mark with a spin throw to the net. Lund was assisted by sophomores Jackson Dorrington and Jack Williams, both adding their second assists of the night.
  • In the final seconds of the period, RPI netted their first goal to make it 4-1 heading into the opening intermission.
  • Campbell tacked on his second goal of the night after the Huskies earned a 5-on-3 power play. Following a shot from graduate student Pito Walton, Campbell was able to tip one in from outside the crease to start the middle frame, 5-1.
  • Williams would continue the scoring efforts with back-to-back goals in the second period to give him six points on the weekend. Freshman Dylan Hryckowian tallied an assist on each of Williams' goals.
  • Northeastern extended their lead to 8-1 when captain Justin Hryckowian scored on a point-blank shot just left of the RPI netminder. The assists were credited to Choupani and junior Gunnarwolfe Fontaine.
  • The defensive end found their way into the scoring action with a dangle from Dorrington to beat the Engineer's defenseman for his third point of the night. Hayes and Fontaine both picked up their second assists of the night.
  • Although the Engineers were able to add one more at the end of the third period, Northeastern was victorious, 9-2.
  • Netminders Cameron Whitehead and Harrison Chesney split time in net, totaling a combined 26 saves. Tonight's game marked Chesney's collegiate debut for the Huskies.
  • Walsh led the team with 12 faceoff wins, while Choupani and Williams had five shots on goal each.
Northeastern is back in action next weekend with a home-and-home series against the No. 2 Boston College Eagles. The Huskies are on the road at Conte Forum Friday night (Dec. 1) before coming home to Matthews Arena on Saturday (Dec. 2).
