GREENSBORO, N.C. – Despite their early offensive production, the Northeastern Huskies (1-1), fell to the UNC Greensboro Spartans (1-1) on the last play of the contest, 7-6 at UNCG Baseball Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
 
The Huskies scored six runs on seven hits in the first three innings, but were only able to muster five hits in the rest of the contest and fell in the final inning on a walk-off single.

• The Huskies got off to a quick start when leadoff man Mike Sirota walked to begin the game.
• After two outs were tallied by the Spartans' defense, Northeastern rallied on their final out to score two runs: After Danny Crossen singled up the middle to advance Sirota into scoring position, Jimmy Sullivan hit a 2-2 count through the right side of the infield to score Sirota for the 1-0 lead.
• The next batter was rookie Carmelo Musacchia, hitting a single to center field scoring Crossen from third, giving the Huskies a 2-0 lead.
• The Spartans were able to answer back in the bottom of the frame thanks to a double that dropped just inches from the line in right field, and a liner single over the infield to score the runner. NU's lead was cut to 2-1.
• The Huskies scored runs in the following two innings, keeping the offense rolling in the opening three frames. In the second, a single by Luke Beckstein and another walk to Sirota set up a booming RBI triple by Alex Lane to left center field, his first hit as a Husky, to put NU up 4-1.
• The following batter was Danny Crossen, who hit a deep fly to right field to score Lane from third on the sacrifice, giving the Huskies a 5-1 lead after two.
• In the third, first baseman Tyler MacGregor belted a line drive over the first base bag to score Gregory Bozzo from second, who was hit by a pitch and advanced by a single from Sirota.
• Crossen and Lane finished the day as NU's best offensive threats, with Crossen going 3-for-4 with an RBI, and Lane going 1-for-4 with his two RBIs and a walk.
• The Spartans put up a crooked number in the bottom of the fifth to cut the lead back down to two runs, 6-4.
• The Huskies had a chance to add insurance with the bases loaded in the top of the eighth with two outs but UNCG induced a ground out to second base to end the trouble.
• Starter Eric Yost went 4.1 innings, notching four K's and no walks - he allowed four runs on nine hits.
• The bullpen did its best to hang on to the two-run lead, with huge innings from Brett Dunham (1.2 IP, 1BB, 1K) getting out of a bases-loaded jam and Jordy Allard entering the game in the eighth and striking out two with runners on.
• UNCG would cut the lead to one run, tie the game, and win the game on three consecutive plays in the bottom of the ninth: a single to left, a single to right-center, and a single to left center to walk it off.

 
With the series tied 1-1, the two teams are scheduled to wrap up the weekend set early Sunday afternoon, February 19, at 1 p.m. The game will be streamed on ESPN+.
