AMHERST, Mass. — Despite their second period equalizer, the No. 15/14 Northeastern Huskies fell short to UMass, 3-2, on Friday evening.
- An early power-play opportunity put the Huskies up, 1-0, just over the halfway mark in the opening frame. Junior Gunnarwolfe Fontaine connected with sophomore Jack Hughes near the redline. Hughes centered the puck to sophomore Justin Hryckowian who danced around the netminder for his 14th of the season.
- The Minutemen responded with back-to-back goals as the periods changed to take the lead.
- Just over the halfway point in the game, graduate student Liam Walsh tallied the equalizer for this fourth on the year. Sophomore Matt Choupani with a dish from behind found Walsh for an easy tap in. Freshman Vinny Borgesi also collected a helper.
- Before the second period closed, UMass would sneak one more goal to eventually clinch a 3-2 victory.
- In 60 minutes of action, junior Devon Levi tallied 23 saves, while Hryckowian tallied 15 faceoff wins to lead both teams.
- Each recording one point in tonight's game, Fontaine (2g, 2a) now has collected four points in four games while Hryckowian (2g, 3a) has tallied five points in his last six contests.
The Huskies are back on home ice tomorrow night as the host the UMass Minutemen for the annual Skating Strides breast cancer awareness game. Game time is set for 7:30 p.m. ET on ESPN+.
