DURHAM, N.C. - In their midweek debut, the Northeastern Huskies (9-1) took down ACC foe Duke (9-4) in a pitcher's duel at Durham Bulls Athletic Park, defeating the Blue Devils by a score of 2-1 on Wednesday afternoon.

Either side only scored once with Northeastern's Gregory Bozzo delivering a two-RBI double in the top of the fourth, which would prove to be the difference in Northeastern's second straight one-run victory. Duke delivered on a solo home run late in the game, but were unable to knot the game up. The Huskies currently find themselves on their longest winning streak, eight games, since the 2021 marathon run that reached a school record 20 games.

• NU's Jake Gigliotti (W, 1-0), fresh off his save against USF on Sunday, got the nod and pitched the first three innings. He allowed just one hit, one walk, and no runs, and struck out one batter to end his outing.
• Northeastern opened the game with two quick hits in the first, but were not able to get into the scoring column until the fourth - their scoring inning began when leadoff man Danny Crossen reached on a throwing error and then stole second base.
• Designated hitter Jimmy Sullivan was walked on four pitches, and a wild pitch sent both runners into scoring position.
• With two outs in the inning, Gregory Bozzo stepped to the plate and hit a big two-RBI double off the left field wall, scoring Crossen and Sullivan, the latter of which would end-up being the game-winning run.
• From there, the Northeastern bullpen continued to spin a gem and combine for just 104 pitches, and held the Duke bats quiet until the eighth inning. Duke tallied a two-out solo home run over the left field wall to cut the NU lead to one. NU pitchers ended the day with four hits, one run, three walks, and seven punch-outs combined.
• Northeastern's pitching staff included appearances from Patrick Harrington (2.0 IP, 1H, 1K), Nick Davis (1.0, 0H, 2K), Brett Dunham (0.1, 0H, 1BB), Charlie Walker (0.2, 0H, 1K), and Jack Beauchesne (1H, 1R) before the closer Griffin Young came in for the last out of the eighth, and the bottom of the ninth (1.1, 1H, 1BB, 2K, SV). It was Young's second save of the season.
• After going 4-3 against ACC opponents in March of 2022, the Huskies are off to a 1-0 start against the conference this season.
• Three combined runs is the lowest run total of any contest the Huskies have played in this season. Two runs in a win is the lowest by a Husky team since March 12, 2021, when the Huskies blanked UMass Lowell, 2-0.
• Northeastern has won three one-run games in 2023 - the Huskies are 3-1 in games decided by one run. 

The Huskies will begin CAA play this Friday, March 10 at 4 p.m. at Latham Park, facing off with the Elon Phoenix. All CAA games this season will stream on FloBaseball.
