The Huskies got an early lead from
Mike Sirota (1-for-2, HR, 2RBI, 2BB) with a two-run blast in the third inning, and big at-bats from the nine hitter
Luke Beckstein (2-for-3, 2 RBI, 2R) to put up six runs on eight hits. Defensively, the infield had a solid day led by starting pitcher
Aiven Cabral (W, 5-3) who went seven scoreless innings, scattering seven hits and striking out three.
- After two scoreless innings, both teams turned it up offensively, beginning with Hofstra placing a runner in scoring position with one out – a sacrifice bunt attempt was snuffed out by starting pitcher Aiven Cabral, who threw home to get the tag out and prevent the Pride from scoring.
- The Huskies were the first to break the stalemate in the bottom of the inning. The number nine hitter, Luke Beckstein, earned a one-out walk, and Mike Sirota sent the first pitch of his at-bat over the left field wall to give Northeastern a 2-0 lead.
- The Huskies added three more in the bottom of the fourth on four hits, with big offense coming from the bottom three of the lineup.
- The two-out rally began with back to back singles by Spenser Smith and Gregory Bozzo.
- Both Bozzo and Smith advanced on a wild pitch and were scored by an RBI single from Beckstein.
- After a walk to Sirota, Danny Crossen hit an RBI single up the middle to score Beckstein from second to make it 5-0.
- The Huskies added another run in the seventh on a bases loaded fielders choice, with Spenser Smith earning the RBI, scoring Alex Lane.
- Hofstra was finally able to break through in the eighth, getting two runners on and scoring a run on an RBI double.
- Finishing the game for Northeastern was Griffin Young, who pitched two innings and allowed just one hit, one walk, and three strike outs.
- Northeastern improves to 10-1 in games played on Fridays, and 9-1 in series openers.
The series will resume Saturday, April 22 at Friedman – the game originally scheduled for 1 p.m. has been moved up to 11:30 a.m. and will be the first of a double header, due to inclement weather in the forecast for Sunday.
