WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – The Northeastern Huskies (38-11, 18-9 CAA) dropped their series to the William & Mary Tribe (32-20, 15-12 CAA) falling in game three by a score of 6-5.
The Huskies found themselves up early for the third straight game, but were unable to close out the game as the Tribe tallied five runs in the seventh to take the lead.
- Northeastern jumped on the scoreboard early after a Tyler MacGregor single followed by an Alex Lane two-out, two-run homer, his second of the weekend.
- Following Lane was Cam Maldonado who followed that up with a solo shot over the left field wall, also giving him two on the weekend, to lead 3-0 after the first inning.
- The Huskies extended the lead with one run in the third and fourth innings – in the third, Danny Crossen led off with a single, and after a double from Alex Lane, Crossen scored from third on a Gregory Bozzo fielder's choice RBI.
- The run in the fourth came on an RBI single to right field by Mike Sirota – he scored Justin Bosland from third, who reached on a single up the middle and took third on a failed pickoff attempt at first.
- The Tribe were able to end the shutout in the fifth inning on a two-out RBI double, cutting the lead to four.
- Starting pitcher Wyatt Scotti worked six innings of one-run ball, scattering six hits and striking out three. He left the game with a 5-1 lead.
- William & Mary would go on to tally five runs on five hits in the bottom of the seventh to take a 6-5 lead.
- Northeastern got the tying run into scoring position with no outs in the top of the ninth on back to back singles from MacGregor and Crossen, but were once again halted by the Tribe defense.
- It was just Northeastern's third loss of the season when leading at the end of six innings.
- The Huskies are now 3-3 in series-deciding game threes this season.
Northeastern returns home for the final four games of the regular season – the Huskies play host to the UMass Lowell River Hawks for a midweek game on Tuesday, May 16 at 3 p.m. on NESN+ and FloBaseball. The Huskies will then close out the regular season against the College of Charleston in a three-game series Thursday through Saturday, May 18-20. All three games will broadcast on NESN and stream on FloBaseball.
