BROOKLINE, Mass – The Northeastern men's soccer team (0-1-1) suffered its first loss of the 2023 season, falling to UMass Lowell (1-0-1) by a final score of 2-1 at Parsons Field on Thursday evening.
- Northeastern held a 9-5 shot advantage in the first, 2-1 on goal, but neither team was able to find the back of the net in the first half.
- The River Hawks got on the scoreboard first in the 50th minute off a rebound of a corner kick which fell to substitute Daniele Mastroianni.
- Just seven minutes later the Huskies equalized – Morris Matthew took a pass in the box from Federico Tellez and sent it on net. Fraser Brown charged the goalkeeper and flipped it off the top of his foot and into the top of the net to level the score at 1-1.
- Lowell took the lead for good in the 84th minute on another goal from Mastroianni on a cross into the box.
- The Huskies tallied five corner kicks in the second half but were unable to equalize the second goal off of them.
- Brown, who tallied two goals in his rookie season in 2022, notches his first goal of 2023.
- Federico Tellez tallied his third assist of the season on the goal to Brown, in just two games played.
The Huskies travel to Wilmington, N.C. this weekend for their first CAA match of the season, facing the UNCW Seahawks on Saturday, September 2 at 6pm on FloFC.
