BOSTON — The Northeastern men's hockey team fought hard against the Vermont Catamounts, led by a three-point night from sophomore
Vinny Borgesi, but came up just short, 5-4, on Friday night.
- Under six minutes into the opening frame, Northeastern took a 1-0 lead thanks to senior Alex Campbell. With a beautiful feed by junior Justin Hryckowian from behind the net, Campbell buried his 11th goal of the season.
- The Catamounts would close the period with two unanswered goals to take a 2-1 advantage.
- Just when it looked like a scoreless second period, Northeastern would tie the game, 2-2, with 1:50 left to play. A perfect pass from the left dot by Borgesi teed sophomore Jackson Dorrington up for a one-timer in the slot to tally his third on the year.
- Vermont would capitalize on three goals to start the third period, making it 5-2 with 12:23 left to play.
- With less than three minutes to go, the Huskies continued to battle back as sophomore Cam Lund scored back-to-back goals, both assisted by Borgesi and sophomore Jack Williams. Despite their efforts, Northeastern came up short, 5-4, in the end.
- Goaltenders Cameron Whitehead and Connor Hopkins split time in net for the Huskies. Whitehead finished with nine saves in 45:37 of action, while Hopkins tallied five saves in 13:06 minutes.
- Lund led all skaters with five shots, while Hryckowian led both teams with 16 faceoff wins.
The Huskies will close out their series with Vermont tomorrow night at 7:30 p.m.
