BOSTON – Deja Bristol tallied a double-double, but the College of Charleston Cougars (12-5, 4-2 CAA) used a big first quarter to take down the Northeastern women's basketball team (6-9, 2-3 CAA) on Sunday afternoon at the Cabot Center.
Bristol had another stellar day, notching her second straight double-double with 18 points and 10 rebounds.
Derin Erdogan also tallied double digits for the Huskies with 13 points and five rebounds.
Charleston shot 43.1% overall in the game, but 62.5% (10-of-16) in the first quarter, outscoring the Huskies 30-7 in the frame. The Cougars had four players in double-digits, with Taryn Barbot leading the way with 26 points and five rebounds.
The Cougars came out firing in the first, making six of their first eight field goals, propelling the visitors to a 16-6 advantage at the 5:36 mark. Jenna Annecchiarico was the story for Charleston in the frame, tallying 12 of her points in the stanza, helping the Cougars to a 30-7 lead going in the second.
An Erdogan jumper got the Huskies started in the second, but Barbot tallied back-to-back threes to balloon Charleston's advantage up to 36-9 at the 7:23 mark. Both teams traded baskets for the majority of the frame, but the Cougars held a 43-17 lead going into halftime.
Barbot continued to be strong, starting the Cougars off with a three, and Charleston continued to push the pace with nine straight points. Northeastern went on a 9-0 run down the stretch, highlighted by five points from Erdogan, but Charleston continued to take their lead into the final frame.
Charleston ballooned its lead to its largest of the game at 77-38 after a 11-0 run in the fourth, and didn't look back the rest of the way for the win.
