Dylan Hryckowian's Overtime Goal Lifts NU Over No. 3 BU

BOSTON — The overtime game winner by freshman Dylan Hryckowian lifted the Northeastern men's hockey team over the No. 3 Boston University Terriers, 4-3, on Tuesday night.
  • Just when the first period looked to be scoreless, the Huskies took a 1-0 advantage into the intermission. Winning the faceoff, graduate student Liam Walsh dumped the puck back for graduate student Matthew Staudacher who found the back of the net for his second goal of the season.
  • The Terriers would score the lone goal in the middle frame to even the game, 1-1, heading into the final period.
  • With an early power play in the third period,  a swing play at the point from senior Gunnarwolfe Fontaine and sophomore Vinny Borgesi opened up sophomore Jack Williams on the backside for a one-timer to take the 2-1 lead.
  • For the second time in as many games, sophomore Jackson Dorrington would pot the puck to extend the Huskies advantage to 3-1. Borgesi and junior Justin Hryckowian would record the helpers.
  • Before the end of regulation, the Terriers would tally two unanswered goals to tie things, 3-3, and send the game to overtime.
  • In the final :33 seconds of the overtime period, Borgesi would connect with Fontaine whose shot was deflected into the back of the net by Dylan Hryckowian for the game winner.
  • In his tenth win of the season, freshman netminder Cameron Whitehead finished the night with 38 saves, tying his season high.
  • Sophomore Hunter McDonald led the Huskies with six blocks, while Justin Hryckowian led both team with 18 faceoff wins.
The Huskies are back at Matthews Arena on Friday night (Feb. 2) as they host the No. 5/6 Maine Black Bears for their annual Skating Strides game.
