Northeastern Fall Short In Overtime To No. 2 Boston University

BOSTON — The Northeastern men's hockey team battled No. 2 Boston University, led by a two-point night from junior Matt Choupani, but came up just short in overtime on Tuesday night.
  • After trailing into the opening minutes of the second period, Northeastern sparked to life and scored two unanswered goals to tie the 2-2. Kicking things off was graduate-student Brett Edwards with his second goal of the season. Right place, right time, the Alberta native jumped on a missed pass by the Terriers for a snipe from the right-side dot.
  • Just over a minute later, the Huskies tallied the period-tying goal courtesy of captain Justin Hryckowian. Off a beautiful feed from behind the goal line by graduate student Pito Walton, the battle near the crease tipped in favor of the Huskies as Hryckowian made it a 2-2 game.
  • Boston University took back a one-goal lead, 3-2, in the opening seven minutes of the final period.
  • It took no time however for the Huskies to tie the game once again, 3-3, before the midway mark. As the Terriers attempted to play the puck back, junior Matt Choupani forced a turnover and push ahead for sophomore Jack Williams. With a two-on-one opportunity, Williams crossed the puck to center ice for senior Alex Campbell who buried the tying tally.
  • A hard-fought period sent the game to overtime where the Terriers found themselves on the winning end for a final 4-3 score.
  • In 61:58 minutes of action, freshman goaltender Cameron Whitehead finished with 36 saves.
  • Junior Justin Hryckowian led Northeastern in both shots on goal (5) and faceoff wins (12).
Northeastern will host their first home series of the season as the welcome of the Vermont Catamounts to Matthews Arena, starting Friday, Jan. 12th at 7 p.m.
