King And Woods Lead Northeastern Past CCSU At Atlantic Slam, 80-62

MONCTON, New Brunswick – Rashad King (27) and Harold Woods (26) combined for 53 points, and the Northeastern men's basketball team (3-1) led by as many as 28 points to earn an 80-62 victory over Central Connecticut State (2-2) on Saturday night at Avenir Centre.

King went for a career-high 27 points on 11-of-15 shooting (3-of-4 from three), Northeastern's fourth different leading scorer in its first four games, while Woods recorded his second double-double of the season with 26 points and 10 rebounds.

As a team, the Huskies were 32-of-60 overall and a perfect 7-of-7 from the line to mark the first time since 2003-04 season that Northeastern has scored 75+ in each of its first four games.

CCSU, meanwhile, finished the night 26-of-54 overall and 5-of-19 from deep, led by 15 points from Jayden Brown.

Neither team led by more than a possession through the first seven minutes before Northeastern blew the lid off with runs of 14-2 and 15-0 to turn a two-point deficit into a 22-point halftime lead, 50-28.

Woods got it going early in the half with 16 points on 8-of-11 shooting along with seven rebounds before King got hot at the end with 18 points on 7-of-9. JB Frankel also provided a spark off the bench with back-to-back triples to go along with two steals at the defensive end.

As a team, the Huskies shot 59% overall and 5-of-11 from long range while forcing the Blue Devils into eight turnovers en route to a 13-of-27 effort in the opening 20 minutes.

CCSU quickly went to work to chip away at the deficit, and used an 18-0 run over nearly seven minutes to make it a 10-point game midway through the second half, 58-48.

A pair of buckets from William Kermoury (13 points) helped stop the bleeding for Northeastern at the Under-8 timeout, setting up a 13-0 Huskies run over that put Northeastern up for good.

The Huskies will travel to Fort Myers, Fla. next week for three games at the FGCU MTE, beginning on Friday afternoon against FIU. Tip-off is set for 1 p.m. on ESPN+.
