CHARLESTON, S.C. – Brynn Smith notched a team-high eight kills, but the Northeastern volleyball team (10-16, 8-10 CAA) fell to the College of Charleston Cougars (23-8, 15-3 CAA) in straight sets in its regular season finale on Saturday afternoon.
- Set One: Charleston got off to a quick 10-4 advantage, and continued to push the pace. The Huskies tallied back-to-back points to trim the deficit to 13-10, but the Cougars went on to win the next eight points (21-10). Charleston hit .316 overall in the frame and took the set at 25-12.
- Set Two: Both teams traded points, with neither leading by more than two. Back-to-back kills by Carly Cooper and Georgia Stavrinides put NU ahead at 13-11, but Charleston responded back to trim the deficit to one. After another kill by Stavrinides followed by an Olivia Alicante kill put the Huskies up 15-12, but Charleston won 10 of the next 12 points to take a 22-17 advantage. The Cougars went on to win the set at 25-21.
- Set Three: The Cougars led 15-8, but the Huskies battled back. NU tallied six straight points to trim the deficit to 15-14. Charleston though, won six of the following seven points to lead 21-15. A kill by Millie Loehr made it 24-19, but the Cougars closed out the match with the next point to win 25-19.
- Stavrinides chipped in with seven kills and five digs.
- Beatrice Gennari had six kills.
- Cooper dished out a team-high 15 assists and 11 digs, picking up her seventh double-double of the season.
- Nadia Koanui had another sensational performance in the back row with 23 digs.
Northeastern's season as come to a close. With Stony Brook's win over Campbell, the Seawolves secured the final spot in the CAA Tournament.
