FORT MYERS, Fla. – Masai Troutman scored 17 points in 21 minutes off the bench, and the Northeastern men's basketball team (5-1) shot 46% in the second half to grind out a victory over Florida Gulf Coast (1-5) on Saturday afternoon at Alico Arena, 59-55.
Â
Troutman, playing in just his second game of the season, finished the day 6-of-10 from the field, including a 4-of-6 showing (2-of-3 from deep) in the second half with six points in the final 4:08 of regulation.
He was joined in double figures by
Rashad King, who went for a game-high 19 on 8-of-13 shooting along with eight rebounds and four assists, while
Harold Woods recorded his third double-double of the year with 11 points, 11 boards and six assists.
Â
The Huskies shot 41% as a team (23-of-56) and 7-of-20 from long range en route to its fourth straight victory, the longest winning streak since the 2020-21 season. FGCU, meanwhile, shot 34% overall (20-of-59), led by 18 points from Dallion Johnson.
Â
Northeastern used a 13-0 run over more than five minutes midway through the first half to turn a seven-point deficit into a 10-point lead, but FGCU would close the half on an 11-0 run of its own to take a one-point lead into the break, 27-26.
Â
The Huskies shot 36% overall (10-of-28) and 4-of-10 from deep, led by eight points from King, but finished the half 0-of-11 from the field as the Eagles climbed back into it despite shooting 32% overall.
Â
The teams went punch for punch in the second half, with FGCU leading by three before King sparked a 9-0 Northeastern run capped by a slam from Troutman to put the visitors up 43-37 with 11:14 to go.
Â
FGCU wouldn't go quietly, though, clawing its way back to make it a one possession game before taking a one-point lead on a layup from Rahmir Barno with 5:24 left.Â
Â
But it was Northeastern's day as Troutman got the job done late, converting a three-point play to give the Huskies a four-point cushion at 54-50 with 4:07 to go before burying a triple with 2:04 remaining to put NU up for good.Â
Â
The Huskies will close out action at the FGCU MTE on Sunday afternoon when the Huskies take on CSU Bakersfield at 12 p.m.
