Northeastern Upsets No. 3 Boston College For Weekend Split

BOSTON, Mass. — The Northeastern men's hockey team upset No. 3 Boston College, 4-2, to conclude their weekend series led by sophomore Dylan Hryckowian and junior Jackson Dorrington following their three-point efforts.
  • The first period ended with the Huskies up 3-1 over the Eagles. Sophomore Dylan Hryckowian buried his fourth goal of the season to give NU a 1-0 lead just over the halfway point of the period. A scrum in front of the net mixed with senior Ryan McGuire and assistant captain Jackson Dorrington opened a shot on the backside for Hryckowian.
  • Not more than two minutes later, Northeastern would extend their lead to 2-0. From the point junior Jackson Dorrington took advantage of the open space along the boards for a long wrister and his first goal of the season. Hryckowian, with his second point of the night, and junior Vinny Borgesi would be credited with the assists.
  • The Eagles would bring the game back within one goal with under five minutes to play in the period.
  • With 3:56 left in the opening frame, captain Jack Williams would once again give the Huskies a two-goal advantage. Finding himself in the right place at the right time, Williams netted a loose puck from the slot thanks to connection from freshman Joe Connor and senior Cristophe Tellier.
  • The game continued its physical nature throughout the second period but went scoreless from both teams. After 40 minutes of action, NU lead BC with 24-21 shots.
  • Still no action to kick off the third period. At the 14:23 mark, Boston College would tack on another goal to make it 3-2.
  • Immediately following a late penalty kill for the Huskies, Hryckowian would score for the second time in the night on an empty net for a 4-2 final. Juniors Cam Lund and Dorrington would pick up the helpers, giving Dorrington his third point of the night.
  • Sophomore goaltender Cameron Whitehead finished the victory with 30 saves, marking his sixth game this season with over 30+ saves.
  • Additionally, Dorrington led all both teams with four blocks, Hryckowian recorded a team-high five shots, and McGuire carried both teams with 18 faceoff wins.
Northeastern will take a short break in their schedule for the holiday before they return to Matthews Arena on Sunday, Dec. 1 for a matinee (3 p.m.) matchup with Bentley University.
