Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Northeastern Edges Old Dominion On The Road, 75-71

NORFOLK, Va. – Three players reached double figures, and the Northeastern men's basketball team (8-3) hauled in a season-high 46 rebounds and hit a season-best 21 free throws, including eight in the final minute, to hold off Old Dominion (3-8) on Sunday afternoon at Chartway Arena, 75-71.

The Huskies have now won three in a row, seven of their last nine, and are off to their best start since the 1985-86 season (9-2).

Rashad King had a game-high 21 points, his fourth 20+ point outing of the season, for the Huskies while LA Pratt (15 points, six rebounds) and Masai Troutman (15 points, 7-of-9 FTs) also reached double digits for a Northeastern squad that finished 24-of-60 overall and 21-of-30 from the line. Harold Woods added nine points and a season-high 13 rebounds, while Collin Metcalf had seven points (5-of-6 FTs) along with 10 boards.

Old Dominion, meanwhile, got 17 points from Robert Davis Jr. on 5-of-12 shooting. The Monarchs finished the afternoon 28-of-68 from the field, 6-of-18 from long range and 9-of-19 from the free throw line.

Northeastern got balanced scoring in the opening half, shooting 42% as a team and taking a 31-26 lead into the break. King and Woods had seven points and six boards apiece, while Pratt and William Kermoury (eight points) had six points each.

The Huskies used a 14-2 run over nearly five minutes to take its largest lead of the half at 17-8 with 12:28 left before ODU responded with a 10-2 run to bring it back within a possession a few minutes later.

Things slowed down a bit late in the half as the teams combined to shoot 1-of-15 from the field over four minutes of game time, before a pair of triples from Woods and Kermoury gave the visitors a five-point cushion at recess.

The game continued to swing back and forth throughout the second half, with the Monarchs getting the lead down to one after three straight buckets from Sean Durugordon (10 points) to make it 36-35 Huskies with 16:48 to play.

A 15-3 Northeastern run over nearly six minutes ballooned the lead up to 14 with 8:50 left, with Troutman and Metcalf combining for nine of those points.

Old Dominion wouldn't go quietly though, slowly chipping away over the final minutes to get the lead down to as few as three points while holding the Huskies without a field goal for the last 3:21, but Northeastern would go 8-of-12 at the stripe over the final 1:08 to complete the win.

The Huskies will be back on the road this week when Northeastern travels to UMass on Wednesday. Tip-off at the Mullins Center is set for 7 p.m. on NESN and ESPN+.
