Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Team Basketball Sends Northeastern Past Monmouth, 77-65

BOSTON – The Northeastern men's basketball team (10-15, 5-7) put four players in double figures and shot 55% in the second half to earn a 77-65 victory over Monmouth (13-12, 6-6) on Saturday afternoon at Matthews Arena.

Northeastern's starters combined for all but 10 points on the day, led by Chris Doherty's 19 points on 8-of-15 shooting along with seven rebounds. He was joined in double digits by Rashad King (16 points, five rebounds, seven assists), Luka Sakota (15 points, three assists), and Harold Woods (10 points, nine rebounds).

Jared Turner added eight points and a team-high 10 rebounds for a Huskies squad that controlled the glass for the 19th time this season, 40-28.

Xander Rice set the tone for Monmouth, finishing with 25 points on 7-of-16 overall and 11-of-13 from the line, while Nikita Konstantynovskyi added 12 points and six boards.

Both teams recovered from slow starts to the first half, with Northeastern using a 15-2 run to lead by as many as 16 before taking a 40-30 advantage into the locker room.

The Huskies, who shot 15-of-36 overall and 5-of-15 from deep in the first, received 10 points from King while committing just two turnovers and turning eight Monmouth turnovers into 15 points. Doherty, meanwhile, had nine points and six boards for the hosts.

Like the earlier meeting this season, Rice once again was the story for the Hawks, dropping 13 on 4-of-8 from the field for a Monmouth team that shot 52% as a team, including a 5-of-7 stretch to end the half on an 8-2 run.

Despite Monmouth cutting the gap to as little as three points with 13:20 left in regulation, Northeastern remained in control of the game in the second half shooting 55% as a team to maintain its lead the rest of the way.

The Huskies used a 20-12 edge on the glass over the final 20 minutes, including eight boards from Turner alone, and used a 10-0 run over less than two minutes midway through the half to go back up by double digits to stay in the driver's seat.

The Huskies will be back at home on Thursday to play host to College of Charleston. Tip-off at Matthews Arena is set for 7 p.m. on NESN+ and FloHoops.
