No. 13 Northeastern Pots Five In Win Over No. 15/14 Boston College

BOSTON— The No. 13 Northeastern women's hockey team (23-9-2, 15-7-2 HE) used a three-point performance from fifth year Katy Knoll as the Huskies rolled to a 5-1 win over the No. 14/15 Boston College Eagles (14-11-7, 13-7-5 HE) at Historic Matthews Arena on Saturday afternoon, capping off a weekend sweep of the Eagles.

The Huskies cemented their second-place position in the Hockey East standings with 50 points and trail the leading UConn Huskies by five points with both teams having two games left to decide the regular season champion.
  • The scoring came early and often for Northeastern in the first period as the Huskies took a 3-0 lead into the first intermission. Graduate student captain Megan Carter extended her point streak to nine games with her third goal in as many games on the power-play to get the scoring started. Carter's power-play tally was assisted by fifth year Katy Knoll and graduate student Peyton Anderson.
  • Junior Skylar Irving then doubled the Huskies' lead with a tip out front of the BC goal from a point shot from senior Lily Yovetich. Knoll claimed her second assist of the day on the goal with a secondary helper. Junior Tory Mariano pushed the lead to 3-0 with 5:38 remaining in the period and had helpers from senior Abbey Marohn and sophomore Lily Brazis. Following Mariano's goal, BC made a switch in goaltenders from Grace Campbell to Bailey Callaway.
  • During 4-on-4 action in the second period, Carter sprung Irving who gave the puck to Knoll to give the Huskies a 4-0 edge over the Eagles. Boston College was able to get one back when Katie Pyne scored at the 12:04 mark.
  • With 1:13 remaining in the second, freshman Allie Lalonde once again made the Husky lead four goals with her eighth goal of the season. Lalonde picked up a rebound on a tipped shot by junior Taze Thompson and tucked the puck away while tripping over the BC goaltender's leg pad.
  • Fifth year goaltender Gwyneth Philips dazzled in net, stopping 44 shots, just one away from her season high.
Northeastern will wrap up the regular season with a home series against the Vermont Catamounts next weekend. Friday, Feb. 23's matchup is at 6 p.m. and will be streaming on ESPN+, and the Huskies' senior night will be Saturday, Feb. 24 at 7:30 p.m. on NESN+ and ESPN+.
