WASHINGTON, D.C. – No. 7 Stony Brook (18-14) used a 12-3 run over six minutes in the second half to turn a six-point halftime lead into a double-digit advantage before icing the game at the free throw line to eliminate the No. 10 Northeastern men's basketball team (12-20) from the 2024 Jersey Mike's CAA Men's Basketball Championship on Saturday night at the Entertainment & Sports Arena, 75-65.
Â
Northeastern struggled shooting the ball all night, finishing 23-of-65 overall, 7-of-23 from three and 12-of-21 from the stripe.
Masai Troutman led the Huskies with 16 points to lead four players in double figures, along with a career-high 14 points and nine rebounds from
Collin Metcalf and 13 points and seven boards from
Jared Turner.
Â
Rashad King added 12 points and a career-high 11 assists, the most assists in a game for a Husky since 2018.
Â
Dean Noll and Tyler Stephenson-Moore were the story for Stony Brook, combining for 44 points as two of three Seawolves to reach double digits. SBU finished the night 43% overall and a 20-of-22 from the line.
Â
Northeastern overcame a slow start from the field to shoot 6-of-14 from deep in the opening half to stay within striking distance throughout, not allowing the Seawolves to lead by more than six as Stony Brook took a 35-29 lead into the locker room.
Â
Troutman led the Huskies with nine points on 2-of-7 from the floor, while King accounted for five of the team's nine assists, including one on a
Jared Turner make from long range to cap a 9-2 Northeastern run.
Â
Stony Brook, meanwhile, received 14 first half points from Noll as the Seawolves shot 43% overall and 4-of-11 from three.
Â
Northeastern would get the deficit down to as little as four points thanks to buckets from Troutman, but the 12-3 run over 6:33, which included more than three minutes of scoreless basketball from both teams, proved to be the difference as the Seawolves expanded their lead and used a 15-of-17 performance from the line to put the game away.
