PROVIDENCE, R.I. — With his second hat trick of the season, senior
Alex Campbell helped bring the Northeastern men's hockey from behind on three occasions en route to a 3-3 tie against No. 11/10 Providence College on Saturday evening.
- Following a scoreless first period, the Huskies and Friars would go on to score a combined four goals in the middle frame. Striking first just 3:20 in, Providence took a 1-0 advantage.
- After beating his defender at the far dot, Campbell walked right into the slot for his first bury of the night to tie things up, 1-1. Junior Justin Hryckowian and graduate student Pito Walton collected the helpers on the Huskies' opening goal.
- Providence took back a one-goal lead, 2-1, with just over three minutes remaining in the second period.
- With only seconds left on the clock, freshman Dylan Hryckowian circled from behind the net for a shot on the Friars netminder. Finding himself in the right spot, Campbell collected the rebound to tie things once again, 2-2. Justin Hryckowian tallied his second point of the night with an assist on Campbell's 20th goal of the season.
- Opening the final frame of the contest, the Friars potted their third goal for a 3-2 advantage with 18:08 left to play in the third.
- As the Huskies earned their first and only power play of the game, Campbell netted his hat trick goal to make it a 3-3 game. For his second point of the game, Dylan Hryckowian battled for the puck to find an open Campbell who in fashion beat his man for a top-shelf bury. Graduate student Matt DeMelis was credited with the secondary, tallying his 50th career point in his 150th career NCAA contest.
- Through 65 minutes in net for the Huskies, freshman goaltender Cameron Whitehead totaled 43 saves.
- Leading both teams after 60 minutes of action was Campbell with a career-high nine shots, Justin Hryckowian with 19 faceoff wins and Walton with five blocks.
Northeastern will host an opening round game of the 2024 Hockey East tournament next Wednesday (March 13). The time and opponent are the game are still to be determined.
