WORCESTER – The Northeastern men's rowing team kicked off postseason competition on Sunday at the Eastern Sprints, advancing its top two boats to the Grand Final on Lake Quinsigamond.
 
The first varsity, which reached the Grand Final following a protest after its morning heat, went stroke for stroke against the top crews in the region, finishing seventh with a time of 5:39.576 against the likes of Brown, Princeton, Yale, Harvard, Pennsylvania and Syracuse.
 
Northeastern's second varsity earned a spot in the Grand Final after battling Yale for the top spot in its heat, getting edged by the Bulldogs by 0.4 seconds. In the afternoon, it was Princeton that controlled the Grand Final, topping the field by three seconds with Northeastern taking sixth at 5:47.066.
 
The Huskies' third and fourth varsity boats both reached the Petite Final, with the 3V clocking in at 5:49.628 just behind Syracuse in the afternoon final, while the 4V finished third in the Petite behind just Princeton and Harvard at 5:57.133.
 
Northeastern will be back on the water for the IRA National Championships, which begin on May 31 at Mercer Lake in Princeton, N.J.
