PISCATAWAY, N.J. – In its season-opening match, the Northeastern University men's soccer team (0-1) fell to Rutgers University (1-0) by a score of 3-1 on Thursday evening at Yurack Field.
- Rutgers made its mark early in the contest, controlling possession and scoring on the fast break in the 3rd minute. The Scarlet Knights tacked on another in the 8th minute to lead 2-0.
- The Huskies responded with pressure and produced a dangerous scoring chance with Griffin Polinsky driving into the box in the 22nd minute but his shot was saved.
- With a free kick opportunity just outside the box, Sebastian Restrepo tallied the opening goal of the 2024 campaign, beating the keeper low left-side past the wall to cut into the lead 1-2.
- Despite heavy NU pressure in the second, Rutgers tallied a third goal against the run of play in the 55th minute to lead 3-1.
- Northeastern got several more chances in the half – tallying 13 total shots and five on target - but were unable to cut back into the lead.
- Goalkeeper Tobias Jahn tallied five saves in his Husky debut.

th at Parsons Field when the Huskies host Boston University at 6 p.m. on FloFC.
