BROOKLINE, Mass. – The Northeastern University men's soccer team (1-2-2) grabbed its first win of the 2024 season, defeating Merrimack College (1-4-0) by a score of 4-1 on Tuesday evening at Parson's Field.

The Huskies took a 2-1 lead into halftime but ran away with it in the second half with two goals from freshman striker
Tomas Sciarra in the 50
th and 59
th minutes. He finished the night with five points, adding an assist on the opening goal.
- Northeastern got on the board first on a give-and-go play between Sciarra and Kade Tepe. Tepe passed into the 18-yard box to Sciarra, who quickly passed back to Tepe charging into the box. Tepe's right-footed shot found the bottom right of the net in the 22nd minute.
- Just over 10 minutes later the Warriors responded with a goal of their own as the Huskies couldn't clear a set piece, and a header found the top right corner of the net.
- The Huskies responded just minutes later on a goal from Harry Sankey, his first of the season. He was sent into the box by Jaden Prado, tallying his first assist as a Husky. Sankey's goal would end up counting as the game-winner.
- Northeastern out-shot Merrimack 15-4 in the first half, 6-2 on target.
- The second half opened up with Thomas Sciarra earning several big scoring chances with his speed – he tallied his first goal of the game on a long pass from defender Mathias Hille, beating the defender and tucking one past the charging goalkeeper for the 3-1 lead.
- After a corner kick for the Huskies, the ball was recycled by Prado to Ethan Kang, who lofted a cross in to Sciarra who scored off a header for the 4-1 lead. It was Prado's second assist of the game and Kang's first career assist.
- In net, Colby Hegarty got his first start of the season and stopped two of the three Merrimack shots on target. He earned Northeastern's first win of the season, and holds a 1-0-0 goalkeeper record.
- Head Coach Jeremy Bonomo earned his first win as a Husky, and the 75th of his career.
