PHILADELPHIA – In the second weekend of CAA conference play, Northeastern University (1-3-2, 0-2-0 CAA) fell to Drexel University (3-3-0, 1-1-0 CAA) by a score of 1-0 on Saturday afternoon at Vidas Field.
- Despite a solid defensive performance by the Huskies in the opening half, Drexel notched the only goal of the contest on a free kick just outside the 18, in the 38th minute.
- Northeastern turned up the pressure in the second half, out-shooting the Dragons 9-6 for the rest of the game, and 5-4 on target.
- That momentum was felt heavily in the 70th minute onward as the Huskies kept the attacking mentality – after a late corner in the 81st minute, Thomas Vold sent in a second chance effort on net from the top of the box, but the bouncing shot was knocked down and smothered by the goalkeeper.
- The Huskies got another dangerous chance on a breakaway from Harry Sankey, but his shot in the 86th minute was turned aside. The following minute, a NU corner kick was on its way over the goal line but a Drexel goal line clearance kept the score 1-0.
- Goalkeeper Colby Hegarty made three saves in the contest in his second straight start.
The Huskies return home for a non-conference match this Tuesday, September 17
th at Parsons Field in Brookline – NU will take on Havard University at 6 p.m. on FloFC.
