Northeastern And Harvard Play To 0-0 Draw

BROOKLINE, Mass. – The Northeastern University men's soccer team (1-3-3) played to a scoreless draw with Harvard (0-1-3) on Tuesday night at Parsons Field. Both defenses stood tall in what was a back-and-forth battle for offensive pressure, with both teams tallying 10+ shots in the contest.

  • Northeastern's best early chance came from reigning CAA Rookie of the Week Tomas Sciarra in the 10th minute. Sciarra dribbled into the box and fired a shot across the goalmouth that just missed, hitting the right post.
  • The Crimson had a shot of their own hit off the woodwork in the 17th minute.
  • Harvard led in shots in the first half, 7-5, but both teams tallied two shots on target in the opening half. Northeastern turned on the pressure with three more shots on goal in the second half.
  • Off the bench, Harry Sankey looked to make an instant impact in the 70th minute when the first play after his substitution was a through ball into the box that we was able to redirect on net, but his shot was saved.
  • In the 87th minute it was Sebastian Restrepo getting a scoring chance off a cross to the back post. Restrepo deflected the point-black shot to just inside the post but a split-second reaction from the Harvard goalkeeper kept the game scoreless.
  • The ensuing corner kick from Morris Matthews curled towards the crossbar but the saving punch from the goalkeeper cleared the play.
  • In net, Colby Hegarty stood tall, commanding his 18 with several high crosses that he snatched out of the air, and two saves in the contest, for his first shutout of the season. It was the third shutout of his NU career.

The Huskies stay home for their next conference match this Saturday, September 21st at 1 p.m. against William & Mary. That game will stream on FloFC.
