STONY BROOK, N.Y. – Led by a career-high 22 points from
Masai Troutman, Northeastern (10-7-, 2-2 CAA) defeated Stony Brook (4-13, 0-4 CAA) by a score of 70-66 on Saturday evening at Stony Brook Arena.
After missing the previous two conference games, Troutman led the way for NU, with his 22 points coming off of 3-for-8 shooting, 2-for-5 from behind the arc, and a near-perfect 14-for-15 at the free throw line, which sealed the game late for the Huskies. Both
LA Pratt (17 points, 7 rebounds) and
Rashad King (10 points, 3 assists) finished in double digits, with
Harold Woods grabbing a team-high eight rebounds in the contest.
As a team, Northeastern shot 90% (19-for-21) at the charity stripe after forcing Stony Brook into the bonus by the final 10 minutes of the game. Troutman's 14 made FTs were the most by a Husky since 2011, and is the tied for the 10th-most in a game all-time in program history.
The Huskies grabbed an early lead and held it for the entire first half, leading by as much as 14 late in the half. NU was paced by
LA Pratt in the first with 12 points, two rebounds, and two assists, as he made three of Northeastern's first five buckets with two early fast breaks to open the half, running in tandem with
Rashad King (6 points, 2-of-3 3FG in the first). The NU lead at halftime was 39-26.
Northeastern's advantage dwindled down in the second half, thanks to a 10-0 Stony Brook run which gave the Seawolves a 55-50 lead with 5:48 to go.
With the game tied at 57 thanks to a pull-up jumper from
JB Frankel,
Masai Troutman had a chance to take the lead from the free throw line with two minutes left and converted both – the Huskies got a defensive stop the following possession and held on for the win.
Troutman made 10 total free throws in the final two minutes of the game, while
Rashad King and
JB Frankel each chipped in at the line to help preserve the lead as the Seawolves continued to foul down by five or less. Troutman's previous career high of 20 points also came on the road against Stony Brook in January of 2023.
