BOSTON, Mass. — Two late goals in the third period were not enough for the Northeastern men's hockey to make the comeback as the fell, 4-3, to Merrimack College on Saturday night.
- Merrimack opened scoring 8:32 into the first period to go up 1-0.
- Earning their lone power play, Northeastern tied the game at 1-1 with just 20 seconds left in the first period. Freshman Joe Connor tried to bury the shot deflection from junior Joaquim Lemay, instead junior Cam Lund was the one to clean up the second rebound for his 11th goal of the season.
- Scoring three unanswered goals in the second period, the Warriors would take a 4-1 advantage into the final 20 minutes.
- Easy movement up the ice paved way for the Huskies' second tally of the night to make it a 4-2 game with just over ten minutes to play. For his second point of the night, Lund began the rush ahead finding sophomore Dylan Hryckowian at the blueline. Hryckowian pulled his defender out as he connected with junior Vinny Borgesi who walked into the slot, beat the Merrimack defenseman and tallied his fifth of the year.
- The final minutes of the game, NU add an extra attacker to the ice in hopes of closing the gap. With 1:56 to play, Connor set up shop back door and buried the puck for his second point of the night. Hryckowian added his second helper of the game and junior Jack Williams picked up the secondary.
- Despite several shots in the final minutes, Merrimack skated away with a 4-3 win.
- Sophomore goaltender Cameron Whitehead totaled 30 saves for his 11th game this season with over 30+.
- Lund led both teams with ten shots and Williams tallied a game-high 16 faceoff wins.
The Huskies are back on the road next weekend as they head to Orono for a single Friday contest with the Black Bears at 7 p.m.
