Huskies Take Control At The End To Beat BU

BOSTON – The Northeastern men's soccer team (3-6-3, 1-4-1 CAA) scored two goals in the last five minutes to take home a 3-2 win over crosstown rival Boston University, on Tuesday night at Nickerson Field.
  • Boston University struck first 15 minutes into the game on a set piece. Sebastian Otero delivered a free kick to Jack Grossman, who fired a shot into the lower left corner of the net.
  • With about five minutes remaining in the first half, the Huskies received a breakaway opportunity. Sophomore Bryce Flowers received a through ball, but Boston University goalkeeper Sheraz Saadat came far out of his box to make the sliding save.
  • Only a minute later, the Huskies received a free kick. After a couple passes, Morris Matthews ended up with the ball and took a shot from far outside of the box. The ball deflected off a Terrier and made its way to the back of the net, tying the game 1-1.
  • In the second half, the Terriers capitalized on a corner kick. After the ball was served in, John Roman got his foot on a bouncing ball and took a strike into the top right corner. The goal was assisted by Pharis Petrica and Diego Rived.
  • With 4:11 left in the game, the Huskies tied the game at 2-2. Freshman Julius Rüger sent a beautiful ball through the air to junior Neil Devnani. Devnani volleyed the ball into the lower left corner of the net.
  • To seal the deal for Northeastern, sophomore Bryce Flowers tipped a ball from senior Jaden Prado and freshman Will Schmidt to take home the 3-2 win with just 39 seconds remaining in the contest.
Northeastern will return to Parsons on Saturday, Oct. 18 to face Drexel on Senior Day at 1 p.m.
