BOSTON – Rookie
Amine Hajibi and junior
Lawton Zacher led the way as the Northeastern men's hockey team earned a 1-0 shutout over No. 7 Denver on Saturday night at Matthews Arena.
After a scoreless opening frame, Northeastern and Denver headed to the first intermission knotted at 0-0. The Pioneers held an 11-2 edge in shots on goal. Senior
Vinny Borgesi anchored the Huskies' defense with a period-leading three blocked shots.
Freshman
Amine Hajibi opened the scoring just 2:17 into the second period, netting his first career goal to give Northeastern a 1-0 lead. The rookie finished off a smooth give-and-go with sophomore
Griffin Erdman after taking a stretch pass from junior
Dylan Finlay from the defensive zone.
Following a scoreless third period, netminder
Lawton Zacher turned aside a season-high 35 shots to backstop Northeastern to its second-straight upset victory and recording his first career shutout as a Husky.
Northeastern now turn their attention back to Hockey East play next week, facing Boston College in a home-and-home series -- Thursday night on the road at Conte Forum before returning to Matthews Arena on Halloween.
