BOSTON -- In their season opener at Matthews Arena, the Northeastern Huskies (1-0-0) got a third period power play goal from Éloïse Caron to claim a 3-2 victory over the RIT Tigers (2-1-0) on Saturday evening.

Facing two one-goal deficits, the Huskies battled back to hand the Tigers their first loss of the season, with a goal and assist each to Caron and her linemate Morgan Jackson.

  • The Tigers struck first with a breakaway goal 2:50 into the opening frame.
  • Northeastern responded 11:05 into the first when Éloïse Caron fed Morgan Jackson from behind the net, and Jackson's one-timer in front of the crease found the back of the net to tie the game.
  • Just before the first intermission, another breakaway for the Tigers resulted in RIT's second goal of the game at 17:06.
  • The Huskies tied it up again in the second, on a faceoff from Allie Lalonde that found rookie defender Ella Lloyd at the point, who fired a laser glove side for her first career goal.
  • Northeastern took the lead four minutes into the final frame, on a power play goal from Caron from Jackson and Lily Shannon. Shannon's pass out in front deflected off the skate of Jackson, and was charged on by Caron who tapped it into the empty side of the net.
  • Sophomore netminder Lisa Jönsson earned his first win of the season in net, the 18th of her career, with a nine-save night. After an early two goals, she stood tall and blanked the Tigers in the final two frames.
  • RIT was whistled for five minor penalties in the game while Northeastern did not enter the penalty box once in the contest.

The Huskies and the Tigers finish their weekend series on Saturday, October 4th at 2 p.m. in Matthews Arena, streaming on ESPN+.
