BOSTON -- Down by a goal entering the third period, the No. 14 Northeastern women's hockey team (2-0-0) rattled off a three-goal period to take down the RIT Tigers (2-2-0) by a score of 3-1 on Saturday afternoon at Matthews Arena.
It took just over a minute in the final frame before the Huskies began a three-goal outburst, off the sticks of
Ella Blackmore to tie it,
Rylie Jones to win it, and
Morgan Jackson provided the empty-netter in the final 90 seconds.
- For the second game in a row the Tigers came out firing to take an early lead. RIT scored 11 minutes into the opening frame off an offensive zone face and a wrist shot from the point.
- Northeastern was whistled for its first two penalties of the season in the second period, but the penalty kill stood tall preventing any goals in the frame.
- Just 1:39 into the third the Huskies got their game-tying goal, when Ella Blackmore caused a turnover on the forecheck. She picked up the puck in the faceoff circle, slid it to the front of the crease, and buried the shot to make it 1-1.
- The game-winner came from Rylie Jones 6:25 into the third, after Holly Abela fed her from behind the net. Jones fired a wrist shot bar down from the far side faceoff dot for her first career goal and Northeastern's first lead of the game.
- The Huskies had a chance to get a third goal on a penalty shot due to a covered puck in the crease, but the chance was saved.
- Northeastern would get its third goal with the RIT net empty in the final 90 seconds. Lily Shannon caused a turnover in the neutral zone, and made a perfect pass to Morgan Jackson behind the defense despite falling to the ice. Jackson guided the puck into the empty net for the 3-1 lead.
- NU goaltender Lisa Jönsson stopped 17 of the 18 shots she faced to start the season 2-0-0.
