BOSTON – Behind a 32-save shutout from goaltender
Lawton Zacher, the Northeastern men's hockey team blanked No. 11/10 Boston College, 3-0, on Saturday night at Matthews Arena to improve their Hockey East record to 3-0-0.
The Huskies broke through early in the second period when freshman
Amine Hajibi capitalized on the power play. After senior
Vinny Borgesi's shot deflected from the stick of freshman
Jacob Mathieu and ricocheted off the end boards, Hajibi batted the rebound out of the air and into the back of the net as he scored his second-straight game winner on home ice.
Later in the frame, sophomore
James Fisher doubled the lead at 13:50, cleaning up a loose puck in front after senior
Dylan Finlay's shot from the slot created a rebound. The sequence began with a hustle play along the boards by junior
Andy Moore as Fisher collected his second goal in as many games.
In the third, the rookie
Giacomo Martino added insurance at 4:13, finishing off a net-front play from junior
Tyler Fukakusa and Mathieu to secure the 3-0 victory.
Junior
Lawton Zacher was once again stellar between the pipes, stopping all 32 shots he faced to earn his fourth-consecutive win and second shutout over the season over a ranked opponent.
Next weekend, Northeastern celebrates homecoming weekend as they host Stonehill for a series at Matthews Arena on Friday, Nov. 7 - Saturday, Nov. 8.
