BOSTON, Mass. – With a goal in the final 1:07 of regulation, sophomore
Joe Connor lifted the No. 12 Northeastern men's hockey team to a 3-2 victory over No. 18/19 Boston University on Friday night.
The Terriers struck early, jumping out to a 2-0 lead as Jack Harvey and Cole Hutson each buried goals within the first 14 minutes of play.
As Northeastern headed into its first power play of the night, freshman
Jacob Mathieu cut the deficit to one with just 2.7 seconds remaining in the period. Crashing the net, the Huskies executed a quick tic-tac-toe sequence, with freshman
Giacomo Martino and sophomore
Joe Connor setting up Mathieu's strike to make it 2-1.
BU extended its advantage in the second, as Jonathan Morello delivered the period's lone goal to send the Terriers into the final frame up 3-1.
The Huskies mounted their comeback in the third period behind junior
Dylan Hryckowian, who struck twice to force overtime with just 1:01 remaining. His first tally came at 7:16, when he pounced on a rebound off senior
Vinny Borgesi's shot from the opposite dot, cutting the deficit to one. Mathieu picked up the secondary assist, marking his second point of the night.
With time dwindling, Northeastern opted for the extra attacker, pulling their goaltender to push for the equalizer. A sharp swing pass from Borgesi teed up Hryckowian for a one-timer on the stick side of BU's netminder, burying the game-tying tally to make it 3-3 and send the contest to overtime. Freshman
Amine Hajibi also picked up an assist on the play.
With overtime winding down, Cole Hutson netted the winner in the final minute to seal the 4-3 decision.
In his second game of the season, goaltender
Quentin Sigurdson finished with a career-high 43 save in 63:38 minutes of action.
Northeastern is back at Matthews Arena following the holiday break as they host Brown University on Saturday, Nov. 29 for Senior Day.
