Huskies Celebrate Senior Day With 4–1 Victory Over Brown

Story Links

BOSTON — Junior Dylan Hryckowian paced the No. 11/12 Northeastern men's hockey team with a three-point afternoon, lifting the Huskies to a 4-1 Senior Day triumph over Brown.

Sophomore goaltender Quentin Sigurdson earned his second win of the season, backstopping Northeastern with a 27-save performance.

Northeastern opened the afternoon with a pair of unanswered goals in the first period, starting with freshman Amine Hajibi's third of the season. At the 4:09 mark, Dylan Hryckowian freed the puck from the end boards and sent it into the slot, where Hajibi collected it in stride and finished for the opening goal. Sophomore Griffin Erdman was credited with the secondary assist.

Only 38 seconds later, sophomore Joe Connor doubled the Huskies' lead to make it 2-0. Freshman Giacomo Martino jump-started the sequence, setting up a crisp give-and-go between Connor and junior Tyler Fukakusa. When Fukakusa's shot kicked loose into space, Connor swooped in and buried his fifth of the year.

Just 4:06 into the middle frame, Northeastern's top scorer, Hryckowian, struck for his eighth of the season to stretch the lead to 3-0. The play developed through impressive chemistry of freshman Jacob Mathieu and Hajibi, who worked a clean sequence to feed Hryckowian at the edge of the crease.

Brown found life late in the frame, as Matthew Desiderio punched in a tally to bring the score to 3-1 heading into the third.

With 1:20 remaining, the Huskies regained their three-goal margin as senior Vinny Borgesi cashed in on an empty-net opportunity. Hryckowian once again created the chance, fighting for space near the crease and freeing the puck for Borgesi to step in and finish. Junior Eli Sebastian was credited with an assist after initiating the transition with a key defensive play.

NU returns to league play next weekend, hosting UMass for a two-game set at Matthews Arena on Saturday, Dec. 6 (7 p.m.) and Sunday, Dec. 7 (5:30 p.m.), with Sunday's matchup airing on NESN.
