Huskies Upset No. 9/8 Terriers, 5-1

BOSTON, Mass. — Led by captain Jack Williams with a four-point effort, the Northeastern men's hockey team upset No. 9/8 Boston University, 5-1, at Agganis Arena on Friday night.
  • Both teams saw little scoring opportunities due to the strong defensive efforts in the first period. As the Huskies earned a 4-on-3 advantage, junior Cam Lund would open scoring with 5:43 remaining in the frame. Juniors Joaquim Lemay and Jack Williams were credited the assists as Lund walked into the right dot and sniped the puck past the Terrier's netminder.
  • Northeastern would go on to tally three goals in the middle frame, beginning with Lund for his second of the night. Once again, Williams connected with Lund for a quick wrist shot from the slot to go up 2-0 with sophomore Dylan Hryckowian earning the secondary helper.
  • The Huskies added their second power-play goal just over the halfway point of the game. Junior Jackson Dorrington began the rush with a backhander to senior Cristophe Tellier in the right dot. Tellier easily found fellow senior Ryan McGuire wide open in the slot for the goal.
  • With the clock winding down, the Terriers would net their first of the game with 2:17 remaining in the period.
  • Just 12 seconds later, the Huskies responded to take back the three-goal lead, 4-1. A perfectly played tic-tac-toe for NU left Williams open for a one-timer and his third point of the night. Hryckowian and graduate student Jake Boltmann were credited the assists.
  • Only 26 seconds into the final period, Boltmann, on a rush into the offensive zone, buried a one-timer to clinch the 5-1 victory for Northeastern. Lund added his third point of the night while Williams tacked on his fourth with the helpers.
  • Back in net for the Huskies, sophomore Cameron Whitehead finished with 24 saves for his ninth win of the season.
  • Lund led both teams with seven shots, while three Huskies tied for two blocks on the night, including juniors Vinny Borgesi and Nick Rhéaume and sophomore Eli Sebastian.
Northeastern is back home tomorrow night to wrap up their weekend series with No. 9/8 Boston University. Puck drop is slated for 7 p.m. on ESPN+.
