WASHINGTON, D.C. – Freshman Alyssa Staten notched a double-double with 20 points and 14 rebounds, but the Northeastern women's basketball team fell to the Towson Tigers 67-44 at CareFirst Arena in the CAA Tournament's opening round on Wednesday evening.
In addition to Staten's strong output, the Huskies were led by Yirsy Quéliz, who had 13 points and five assists. Staten's 20 points marked a career-high and her 14 rebounds tied her career-high.
Northeastern struggled out of the gate, falling behind 19-13 at the end of the first quarter. The Huskies continued to lose ground in the second quarter and faced a 42-26 halftime deficit.
Towson continued to increase its lead after halftime, building a 48-30 advantage before Northeastern went on a 6-0 run, punctuated by a three from Queliz, to trim its deficit to 48-36 with 3:14 to go in the third. Towson countered and stretched its lead to 52-38 heading into the fourth. Northeastern knocked down two three-pointers in the quarter to score six of its 12 total points.
Northeastern could not pull any closer in the fourth, losing by a final of 67-44. Northeastern took advantage of its opportunities in the post, scoring four of its six points in the paint.
The Huskies end their 2025 campaign with a 3-25 record.
