BOSTON, Mass. — Despite a career-high 57 saves from sophomore netminder
Cameron Whitehead, the ninth-seeded Northeastern men's hockey team fell in double overtime, 4-3, to the No. 4 and second-seeded Maine Black Bears in the Hockey East semifinals on Thursday evening at TD Garden.
- Maine jumped ahead to a 1-0 lead with just under six minutes remaining in the first period and held onto that advantage through the end of the opening stanza.
- Northeastern cut the deficit to one goal as sophomore Dylan Hryckowian scored on the power-play four minutes into the second period with helpers from freshman Joe Connor and junior Cam Lund. Before the Black Bears could escape the period the Huskies would steal the game-tying goal from Lund fed from teammate junior Jackson Dorrington to set up an exciting final frame.
- Sophomore Andy Moore scored the Huskies third try of the contest, his first collegiate goal in the fourth minute of play to give Northeastern the lead. Maine found their response just past the media timeout with Luke Antonacci sneaking a shot past Northeastern defense to even the game at three-a-piece to force overtime.
- The teams would face scoreless affairs in the first overtime period as the Black Bears outshot the Huskies 26-13.
- In the second overtime Maine sealed its victory at 8:58 with a back post goal.
- Whitehead set a new career-high in saves with 57 on the evening, putting himself at second all-time in single-game saves in Northeastern program history.
