Hampton Edges Northeastern In CAA Second Round, 70-65

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Rashad King went for 24 points and 10 rebounds for the Northeastern men's basketball team (17-15), but Hampton (17-15) shot 54% in the second half and got 22 points apiece from George Beale Jr. and Noah Farrakhan to knock off the Huskies in the second round of the 2025 Jersey Mike's CAA Men's Basketball Championship on Saturday night, 70-65.

Northeastern led by eight at halftime thanks to a 56% shooting performance in the opening 20 minutes, but went 10-of-28 overall in the second half as Hampton heated up. King finished 9-of-21 overall to lead three Huskies in double figures, joined by LA Pratt (14 points on 6-of-11) and Youri Fritz (10 points, six rebounds off the bench).

Despite the cold second half shooting, the Huskies hung tough, and trailed by three with less than a minute to play. A pair of Hampton turnovers, including a steal from Fritz on an inbounds pass, set the Huskies up with a chance to make it a one point or tie ballgame, but Northeastern couldn't get a shot to fall before the Pirates made it a two-possession lead at the line to ice it.

The Pirates ended the evening 44% from the field and 17-of-21 at the line, including 12-of-16 at the stripe in the second half, with Beale Jr. and Farrakhan as the lone players in double figures.

The Huskies shot 56% as a team during a physical first half before Northeastern closed on a 9-2 run to take a 37-29 lead into the locker room. Pratt had it going early, finishing with nine first half points before King and Fritz combined to score the final 13 Northeastern points of the half, including a triple from King to close it out.

Hampton, meanwhile, was paced by 10 points from Beale Jr. as the Pirates shot 35% overall and led by as many as five before the late Northeastern run.

The Pirates cut into the gap early in the second half, opening on a 18-7 run to turn the eight point deficit into a three point lead with 13:33 left, 47-44, with all the points coming from Beale Jr. and Farrakhan.

King went to work from there, leading the Huskies on a 7-0 run to retake the lead with 11:46 to play before a 14-4 Hampton run from there gave the Pirates a lead it wouldn't relinquish the rest of the way.
