BOSTON, Mass. — The Northeastern men's hockey team was edged by No. 6 Providence in their Hockey East regular season finale at Matthews Arena on Saturday night.
- Through the opening 20 minutes of action, both teams remained scoreless as they stood even with 11 shots apiece.
- To open the middle frame, Providence would score two goals in the first eight minutes for a 2-0 lead.
- A rush that began with sophomore Dylan Hryckowian brought the Huskies within one goal with 10:07 to go in the second period. Junior Cam Lund carried the puck up the ice and rung it off the back boards. The rebound quickly came out to the right dot for graduate Jake Higgins who buried it home for his second goal of the season.
- Tallying his second point of the night and sixth in four-straight games, Hryckowian tipped in a power-play goal to bring NU within one. With little hesitation, the Huskies' first unit crashed down on Providence's defense to open up Hryckowian for the redirect in front of the crease. Junior Jack Williams and freshman Joe Connor tallied the helpers.
- The tied game was broken 37 seconds later when the Friars netted the game winner for a 3-2 victory.
- Sophomore netminder, Cameron Whitehead, completed the game with 27 saves.
- Higgins and junior Jackson Dorrington both collected a team-high two blocks.
For the second year in a row, Northeastern will face Merrimack in the Hockey East tournament opening round game. The game is slated for Wednesday, March 12 at Lawler Arena wtih the game time TBD.
