BROOKLINE, Mass. – Looking to defend their 2024 Baseball Beanpot title, the Northeastern Huskies (19-8) shut out the Boston College Eagles (13-13) in the semifinals 3-0 at Friedman Diamond on Tuesday afternoon. The Huskies will return to Beanpot Championship game, which will take place on April 29
th at Fenway Park.
- Northeastern brought in two runs in the opening inning on two hits and a BC error. The inning began with a leadoff walk to Carmelo Musacchia, and a dropped fly ball in center field to allow Cam Maldonado to reach base.
- After the error, Ryan Gerety laid a bunt single down the third base line to load the bases, and Jack Goodman beat out a double play to drive in Musacchia from third.
- Harrison Feinberg followed up the RBI fielder's choice with an RBI single to left-center field to score Maldonado for the 2-0 lead.
- In the fourth inning, Gregory Bozzo reached first on a fielder's choice, and then scored from first on a two-out RBI double for Cam Maldonado down the left field line for the 3-0 lead.
- The Husky pitching staff and defense stood strong to deliver its nation-leading seventh shutout of the season, needing just two pitchers to put away the Eagles.
- Max Gitlin continued right where he left off last Wednesday, pushing his shutout streak to 16 innings after throwing seven scoreless to start the game, on just four hits and no walks. He struck out two batters in his outing.
- Getting his first DI save working the final two innings was Cooper McGrath, who allowed just two hits and no walks, striking out three.
- Northeastern is now 33-29 all-time in the tournament, and 8-16 against Boston College, winning their last two meetings with the Eagles in the competition.
- Northeastern has allowed just one run in its last three Baseball Beanpot games.
- It's the first back-to-back championship game appearance by the Huskies since the 2009 and 2010 seasons, where Northeastern went 1-1 in the championship game against UMass at Fenway Park (W, 5-3) and Boston College in Brockton (L, 9-3).
- Northeastern will face a rematch with Harvard University in the late game at Fenway Park, after sweeping the first-ever weekend series with the Crimson earlier this season at Friedman Diamond. The Crimson took down UMass in the opening round, 15-3.
- It's the first championship appearance at Fenway for the Huskies since the 2013 tournament, where the Huskies beat UMass 6-3.
The Huskies travel down to North Carolina for the third weekend of CAA play, as they face the Campbell Camels in a three-game series starting this Friday, April 4
th at. 6 p.m.
